What to review
Identical content across domains can split crawling and indexing signals. Duplicate content is not automatically a penalty. The first decision is which domains and URLs should be indexed, consolidated or redirected.
Approach
- Inventory the domains, URL patterns and intended markets before choosing a canonical or redirect strategy.
- Check response codes, canonical tags, internal links and sitemaps for conflicting signals.
- Use Cloudflare Workers or Lambda@Edge for agreed metadata changes, while keeping the visible content and canonical strategy consistent. Unique metadata alone does not make identical pages unique.
- For genuinely localised pages, align language content, canonical URLs and hreflang.
How to validate
Compare rendered and initial HTML, check representative URLs in Search Console, and monitor canonical selection and index coverage after changes. Keep evidence of the affected URLs and the implementation.
